Where do we come from?

-= To answer simply we all come from the womb =-
-= Which womb? =-
-= exactly what womb? =-

SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO.
Points of influence about the paintings that I'm working on.

1. The Living Theatre

I first found out about the Living Theatre when I was 18 but I didn't think much of them at the time because all I studied was their production of the Brig. It wasn't until I was 21 and took a graduate level english class at KU called Avant Garde Theatre. The teacher whom I won't forget was the lovely Iris Fischer, and she introduced to us all the wonderful characteristics of this group.

The Living Theatre is the oldest and longest running American or for that matter international experimental theatre group. Started in 1952 by the actor Judith Malina and the painter/poet Judian Beck, the company achieved acclaim for their severely extreme beliefs on what theatre can do and should do for the public. They themselves are influenced by my flava favorites like: Absurdism, Antonin Artuad, William Carlos Williams, Anarchy, the Kabala, and Bertolt Brecht.

One of the their plays in particular, Paradise Now, has caused a great fever within my ideas about order, chaos, and freedom. The plays objective is to create a pacifist/anarchist change within the audience that will eventually continue into the streets, therefore not only creating a radical change in the community, but also in the bounds of what can be achieved through creativity and art. The show traveled across the world and caused many riots. Srsly, after one of their producitons in France during the students revolts they had over 400 policemen waiting for them outside the performance space.

I don't think that this post is gonna give justice to the power of the company and so I will post some links for your consumption.

Basically, the Living Theatre makes all of contemporary youth culture seem like pathetic lame ducks sitting in water about to be shot by red neck 12 yr old boys with crappy bee-bee guns. What they did and didn't do marks to me what is possible within a group mentality and reminds me of what trivial henges certain social orders put upon the individuals. Furthermore, their adamant anti-war efforts haunts me. Why aren't we all protesting the war right now? or protesting big car/oil companies? or knocking Bush out on the street? It makes me say, "come on people! fight the power!"

Also. the Silver Apples are playing in San Francisco on Oct 20th. this is a BIG DEAL. do you know who the Silver Apples are? CHECK 'EM OUT.
